1. Your PC or laptop needs to be in working condition and have at least 512MB RAM in it to run Robolinux on its own or to set up a dual boot Robolinux + Windows system.

2. If you plan to install Windows XP or Windows 7 into the Robolinux virtual machine or "VM", here are the RAM & Processor requirements:

You cannot run a virtual machine with only 512MB RAM in your PC or laptop and achieve successful results. A minimum of 1GB of RAM is required.

For a PC or laptop with Windows XP:

You need a minimum total of 1GB of RAM in your Windows XP machine. i.e. Use 512MB of RAM for Robolinux and 512MB of RAM for the Windows XP virtual machine called a "VM". If you have 2GB of RAM in your machine then use 1GB of RAM for Robolinux and 1GB of RAM for the Windows XP VM.

For a PC or laptop with Windows 7:

You need a minimum total of 3GB of RAM in your Windows 7 machine. i.e. Use 1GB of RAM for Robolinux and 2GB of RAM for the Windows 7 virtual machine "VM". If you have 4GB of RAM in your machine then use 1GB of RAM for Robolinux and 3GB of RAM for the Windows XP VM.

BIOS & CPU Requirements: Your PC or laptop BIOS must provide support for virtualization and must have at least a dual core CPU if you want to run standard resolution Windows games smoothly. All other regular programs like Microsoft Office run perfectly on a single core processor running Robolinux and a Windows VM, but If you run Windows games inside a Robolinux virtual machine that only has one processor it will be slow and you will not be satisfied. This is because games require more processing power than regular software programs do. 

3.  You cannot run high end 3D graphics Windows games or Movie Studio quality HD Editing software inside ANY virtual machine, including the Robolinux VM. These graphics hungry programs require full access to your large and expensive graphics card. Instead you must set up a dual boot system. ie. Windows runs standalone in its own partition and Robolinux runs standalone in its own partition as well. Then you choose which one you want to boot up: Windows or Robolinux.

4. Your PC or laptop must have been manufactured within the last 8 years (2006 to 2014)

Please note:  Some older PC's & laptops have a BIOS that do not support virtual machines or need to be updated or flashed. Please contact your Hardware Manufacturer if you need help because your PC or laptop's BIOS is not working with Virtualization.

5. If you have purchased an old salvaged PC or laptop, please make sure that it is in 100% working condition before you install Robolinux.

For example:  A broken wifi card cannot work with a wifi driver unless it is replaced.

Kurumin 7 Linux OS Distribution

Kurumin Linux was a Live CD operating system based on Knoppix. Its main features are the advanced hardware auto-detection (inherited from Knoppix) and a Portuguese user interface, and its main goal is ease of use. As of release 7.0, the size of the disk image is approximately 603 MB.

Kurumin Linux is a Brazilian run-from-CD Linux distribution based on Knoppix. Its main features are excellent hardware auto-detection, support for Brazilian Portuguese and small size. 

The name comes from the Tupi word "kurumi", which means boy. The usage of the letter K, instead of the usual Portuguese spelling ("curumi" or "curumim"), brings it in line with KDE (Kurumin's default desktop environment), as well as with Knoppix.

Kurumin was a Linux distribution developed by the Hardware Guide staff and collaborators, aiming to be an easy to use system, geared especially for beginners and ex-Windows users. Originally Kurumin was developed based on Knoppix, then moving on to also use components Kanotix and other projects, besides being based on Debian packages. All components used and scripts are open, which also enabled the emergence of modified versions of the system.

Despite having made a great success and have been for some time one of the most widely used distributions in the country, the project ended up failing to attract a group of developers interested in participating actively in the development. This and other factors (including the justified charging around new features and enhancements) ultimately causing the project to be discontinued in January 2008.

Kurumin continued to receive support and minor upgrades throughout 2008 and early 2009, following the life cycle of Debian Etch, in which the system is based. The release of Debian Lenny on 15/02/2009 marked the end of the maintenance cycle Kurumin 7, marking the closure of the support system. If you still are using, we recommend upgrading to Debian Lenny, which is the direct successor.

MEPIS LLC and MEPIS Linux were founded by industry veteran Warren Woodford in November 2002 to create a user-friendly Linux version that “just works” based on Debian Linux. The first release was in May 2003. In July 2006, MEPIS transitioned with the release of 6.0 from using Debian packages to using packages and repositories from Ubuntu 6.06LTS (“Dapper Drake”).

A major upgrade (6.5) came out in April 2007, introducing for the first time 64-bit and Mactel support. A few months later, anticapitalista, a member of the European MEPIS community, released his well-received antiX based on a MEPIS Linux core and optimized for old and low-spec computers.

In Version 7.0, released in December, 2007, MEPIS Linux switched its base to a combination of MEPIS packaged binaries, based on Debian and Ubuntu source code, combined with a Debian Stable OS core and extra packages from Debian package pools. As the developer explains: “By using the latest Debian and Ubuntu source code for building user applications, we can provide the best latest versions of the applications users want the most. And by building on top of a Debian Stable core, we can provide a release that has the stability and long life that users want.” The emergence of a Community Packaging Team has allowed users to remain current with application releases while retaining the signature stability.

MEPIS development continues to track Debian development. MEPIS 8.0 was released in February 2009 as “Lenny” became the new Debian Stable 5.0, and now MEPIS 8.5 integrates the KDE 4.3 desktop with that release.

DoudouLinux is a community project in which any motivated person as well as organizations can contribute in order to improve it, particularly concerning translations. It is not necessary to get involved for the long-term to contribute, you can just bring what you think to be able to bring. As we have many ideas to develop DoudouLinux, nearly anyone can bring something to our project, this is not restricted to translations.
